David has over 25 years experience at “C” level (CEO, CFO and COO) in general, financial and operational management positions in large corporations, mid- sized companies and new start-ups, in multiple industries’ and in 6 countries
David has extensive experience as a Chair and Board Member, with over 20 years of Board experience, serving on the boards of more than 5 significant Australasian organisations since 1991, including:
Optus Communications, Optus Vision, Qantas, Air NZ, and Sunbeam Victa. In an executive capacity as CEO and CFO, he has worked alongside many well known and highly respected business figures in Australia, including Gerry Harvey, Kerry Packer, James Packer, Bill Dix, John Ducker, Phil Cave and Bob Mansfield to name a few, in companies such as: Harvey Norman, Qantas, Australian Consolidated Press, Optus Communications, and Sunbeam Victa In the Middle East he worked with: Dubai Aluminium Company – At that time, the largest manufacturing company in the Middle East outside the petroleum industry, and Whinney Murray (now part of Ernst and Young) where he headed the Middle East management consulting practice. David has over 20 years experience in manufacturing companies in the UK, Middle East and Australia. Professional Qualifications David studied for his MBA at Cranfield University (UK) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (UK).
Major Business Achievements:
David has been instrumental in successfully completing a number of new business start-ups, mergers, acquisitions, turnarounds, divestments, closures and management buyouts. He has extensive experience in the preparation and presentation of long-term strategic plans to financiers and has been successful in securing a number of significant fund raisings, including a $2.6bn. facility with 18 banks for Optus Communications, numerous bank facilities and funding for 2 management buy-outs.. As Finance Director/CFO David chaired the committees that undertook due diligence, prepared the prospectus, and negotiated the share sale strategy with financial institutions for the IPO’s of both Optus and Qantas; Business systems implementations and upgrades have been a special interest throughout David’s career, from SAP and MRP2 to bespoke industry-specific systems in a number of companies. Recently, David has been working closely with the owners of several small and mid-sized businesses in a coaching and mentoring role, and formulating strategic and business development plans. He has also undertaken extensive training in Internet Coaching and Marketing and Social Media skills, and has created an authority website to fulfil his passion for assisting men at the end of their careers to design a better retirement life, one more fitting to the dynamic career they are exiting.
